The Mediterranean Seagrass Association—Seagrass 2000 is a not-for-profit membership organisation whose mission is to: promote seagrass research, the field of basic science dealing with the study and inquiry into the form, function, development, diversity, reproduction, evolution, and uses of marine plants and their interactions with the environment.

To accomplish this mission, the objectives of the Association are to: sustain and provide education about seagrasses and the associated fauna and flora; encourage research; provide expertise, direction, and position statements concerning seagrasses and seagrass ecosystems; foster communication within the professional Mediterranean community, through information sharing, publications, meetings, and committees.
